Artificial Sweeteners

Many artificial sweeteners such as Acesulfame K, sucralose, and saccharin are used inside pre-workouts. While artificial sweeteners are not considered to be healthy, there is no research that shows them having any effect on growth.

Are Pre-Workout Supplements Safe For Teens?

While pre-workout doesn’t seem to have any serious risks for teens, it still isn’t the best possible option for growing adolescents. Addiction and high doses are the danger. High doses of the ingredients in pre-workout aren’t healthy for anyone.

Plus your body will become dependent on the boost that you receive from it. A 16-year old doesn’t need to be dependent on a supplement to receive their energy. With a well-balanced, healthy diet, and hydration they should have all the energy they need. A coffee here and there or maybe taking pre-workout once a week will not hurt.

It’s important to note that caffeine is probably the most dangerous ingredient in pre-workouts. Mainly in high doses, but even low does can show negative effects for some people.

If you are going to take pre-workout supplements as a teen, make sure to choose a well researched brand with safe ingredients. Make sure to only take the recommended dose and not take it all the time. Don’t take any other caffeine while using pre-workout such as energy drinks.
